Electric cars are demanding on tyres. The battery pack makes them noticeably heavier than a comparable petrol or diesel car, and their instant torque puts more force through the tyres from a standstill - so EVs can wear tyres faster (some estimates put it around 20% quicker). That makes fitting the correct tyre, with the right load rating, especially important.
EV-optimised tyres are built to cope: a stronger construction and higher load index for the weight, low rolling resistance to protect your range, and often noise-reducing foam inside - useful because EVs are so quiet that tyre noise stands out. You do not always have to fit an EV-marked tyre, but you must fit one with the correct load and speed rating for your car, and an EV-friendly tyre will help with range, wear and refinement.
